Also known as Mira Ceti, Mira A, and Omicron Ceti, a variable red giant star in the constellation Cetus, the Whale. Over the course of a 332-day cycle, Mira can grow more than 1,500 times brighter than at its dimmest point. As it moves through the galaxy, Mira is shedding a giant cometlike tail of dust and gas that extends for a distance of over 13 light-years.
