Kermadec Islands, island group in the southern Pacific Ocean, a dependency of New Zealand. Located northeast of New Zealand, the islands have very few inhabitants. The largest island is Raoul, or Sunday Island, which has an area of 28 sq km (11 sq mi) and is the site of a meteorological station and airfield. The islands were annexed by New Zealand in 1887. Total area, 29 sq km (11 sq mi).
