Although only 50 km (30 mi) in circumference, the semicircular island has good harbors that are used as provision depots but are not permanently inhabited. New Zealand’s Sub-Antarctic Islands—which along with Campbell Island include the Antipodes Islands, Auckland Islands, Bounty Islands, and the Snares—were collectively named a World Heritage Site in 1998.
