Signature, a person's name, usually in his or her own handwriting. In law, signatures are put at the end of a legal instrument to show that it is valid. The most common and readily accepted form is the person's own handwriting, but a signature may be printed, stamped, or typewritten. Illiterate persons often draw an “X” or other symbol, attested by the signature of a witness.
