El Cid (motion picture), box-office hit motion picture starring Charlton Heston as El Cid, the 11th-century Spanish warrior. Released in 1961, the film chronicles El Cid’s efforts to oust the Moorish invaders from Spain. The film features many enormous battle scenes and Sophia Loren as El Cid’s deceitful wife.
