Vera Lynn, full name Vera Margaret Lewis Lynn, born in 1917, English singer, known during World War II (1939-1945) as the 'Forces' Sweetheart.' She became famous with such songs as 'We'll Meet Again,' 'White Cliffs of Dover,' and in 1952, 'Auf Wiederseh'n, Sweetheart.' She received the honorary title Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE) in 1975.
