Wilhelm Walter Friedrich Kempff (1895–1991), German pianist and composer, who excelled at the 19th-century classical repertory of composers Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Frédéric Chopin, and Franz Liszt. He resigned as director of the Stuttgart Conservatory when only 35 to concentrate on performing. He played with cellist Pablo Casals, violinist Yehudi Menuhin, and Pierre Fournier.
