Navajo Male Hogan
The Navajo people traditionally built two types of buildings called hogans, which represent the opposing male and female principles that the Navajo believe hold the universe in balance. Ceremonies such as healing rituals take place in the male hogan. Built of logs and covered with earth, the male hogan is typically cone-shaped with a tunnel-like entrance on the east side.
