| Native Americans in the Southeast typically lived in villages, as in this Natchez settlement reconstructed in Mississippi. The Natchez built rectangular houses supported by upright poles with branches woven between the poles. Clay plaster then covered the supports. Roofs were thatched with local materials. | ||||||
