Navajo Female Hogan
A female hogan houses the Navajo family and is larger than a male hogan where ceremonial rituals take place. Hogans have wooden frames; packed clay or mud seals the frame, providing insulation in winter and keeping the heat out in summer. Hogan in the Navajo (Diné) language means “home place.”
