Solidarity Rally

Solidarity Rally
Lech Wałęsa, left, was a leader of the 1980 strikes in Poland that led to the formation of the national Solidarity trade federation. Solidarity quickly became a political force opposed to the Communist government of Poland. The Solidarity movement was instrumental in bringing about free elections in Poland in 1989, and its members led the coalition government that came to power. Wałęsa was elected president of Poland in 1990.
